If you’ve visited our Tasting Room recently, you may have been one of the lucky few who got a taste of the small-batch releases of our Bourbon and Maple ciders. Our cider makers, Brian Bolzan and Joe Cuneo-Tomasi, have been hard at work crafting more new limited-release ciders that will be debuting soon. The next on the horizon is Jack’s small-batch Breakfast Cider—with notes of maple, bourbon and coffee.
Brian explains, “We released a limited batch Maple Cider and an exclusive Bourbon Cider, so in thinking about those ingredients we asked, ‘Why not put them together and add some coffee as the kicker?’ We aged a portion of our Maple Cider in A. Smith Bowman bourbon barrels alongside a batch of our Bourbon Cider.”
He continues, “In an effort to partner with even more local artisans, we tapped Gettysburg’s The Ragged Edge Roasting Company, who cold-brewed us a batch of medium roast Ethiopian coffee that we blended into this cider. The result is a dangerously drinkable cider— perfect for that morning or midday boost. We chose the Ethiopian blend coffee because we think its acidity and roast character complement the vanilla notes of the barrel. We think it tastes like a strong cup of coffee with a stack of warm pancakes drowning in maple syrup.”
This special cider weighs in at 5% ABV and will be released in mid-May in limited quantities in select markets. Brian concludes, “The Breakfast Cider has been such a delightful product to work on because we brought so many unique ingredients together and crafted a cider that is greater than the sum of its parts. You just have to try it!”
