Try This: Cool Down With Cider-Infused Treats

In Jack's Hard Cider Blog by Jack's Hard Cider

Summer is here and the heat is on. To combat the rising mercury, nothing cools you down quicker than an icy can of Jack’s Hard Cider. But if you’re looking for more ways to enjoy our crisp, balanced craft cider, or want to impress the heck out of dinner party or cookout guests, here are a few of the coolest ways to turn Jack’s into extra-refreshing treats:

  • Popsicles: Too hot to move? We feel your pain. This awesome snack takes truly minimal effort: Crack and pour a can of Jack’s (our Peach and Pear Ciders would work especially well here) into popsicle molds. A few hours later, you’ve got frozen adult treats guaranteed to bring your internal temperature down by a few degrees. To create fun, custom flavors, add a splash of fruit juice or fruit puree. Just be sure to label these well so they don’t end up in the hands of any kids. Bonus: You’ve got a bona fide excuse for sticking your head in the freezer.
  • Granita: This awesome Italian dessert is kind of like a grown-up slushie. Granita is a cinch to make: for four servings, pour two cans of Jack’s into a shallow, freezer-friendly pan (a Pyrex dish or nonstick loaf pan will do fine), then add two tablespoons of white sugar and the juice of half a lemon. Stir all the ingredients together until the sugar dissolves and stick the pan in the freezer (enjoy that cold blast). Every half hour, open the freezer (more cold blasts!) and stir the mixture with a fork, breaking up any lumps. After about three hours, you should have a firm but scoopable mixture. That means it’s done and ready to serve! If the granita has frozen solid, let it sit in the counter for 20 minutes or so to loosen it back up. You can get fancy and include other ingredients, or for those extra rough days, add a splash of bourbon to the mix before freezing.
  • Ice Cream Cider Float: Summer’s best two treats, cider and ice cream, meet in the frosty perfection that is an ice cream float. Wow your beer nerd friends by using Jack’s Dry Hopped Cider, and please your vegan pals by subbing lemon sorbet or dairy-free vanilla ice cream.
  • Cider cubes: Perk up iced tea and add pizzazz to bourbon-based cocktails with cider cubes. We probably don’t need to give you instructions here, but just in case: Pour Jack’s Hard Cider into a regular ice cube tray, freeze until solid and enjoy whenever you want a little taste of crisp cider goodness.

Hang in there, friends, and try to enjoy summer’s heat! Soon enough, we’ll be digging our blankets and sweaters back out of the closet.
